Bruce Reading
President & CEO

As president and CEO of VoltDB, Bruce Reading brings more than 27 years of experience building shareholder value in a variety of operating roles including sales, marketing, asset management and operations.

Before joining VoltDB, Bruce was Senior Vice President and General Manager for Compuware Corporation (NASDAQ:CPWR), prior to which he spent six years as President, Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President at Gomez, Inc., which was ultimately acquired by Compuware. Previously, he served in senior management capacities at Access International, Cayman Systems and Dictaphone Corporation.

Bruce is passionate about his involvement as a Board of Directors member for Boston-based Containers 2 Clinics, a non-profit organization focused on delivering sustainable primary health care to women and children all over the globe.

 

Mike Stonebraker
Co-Founder & CTO

Dr. Michael Stonebraker has been a pioneer of database research and technology for more than a quarter of a century. He was the main architect of the Ingres relational DBMS, and the object-relational DBMS PostgreSQL. These prototypes were developed at the University of California at Berkeley where Stonebraker was a Professor of Computer Science for twenty five years. More recently at MIT, he was a co-architect of the Aurora Borealis stream processing engine (commercialized as StreamBase), the C-Store column-oriented DBMS (commercialized as Vertica), and the H-Store transaction processing engine (commercialized as VoltDB). Currently, he is working on science-oriented DBMSs and search engines for accessing the deep web. He is the co-founder of six venture capital-backed start-ups.

Professor Stonebraker is the author of scores of research papers on database technology, operating systems and the architecture of system software services. He was awarded the ACM System Software Award in 1992, for his work on Ingres. Additionally, he was awarded the first annual Innovation award by the ACM SIGMOD special interest group in 1994, and was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1997. He was awarded the IEEE John Von Neumann award in 2005, and is presently Adjunct Professor of Computer Science at MIT.

 

Scott Jarr
Co-Founder & Chief Strategy Officer

Scott Jarr brings more than 20 years of experience building, launching and growing technology companies from inception to market leadership in highly competitive environments.

Prior to joining VoltDB, Scott was VP Product Management and Marketing at on-line backup SaaS leader LiveVault Corporation. While at LiveVault, Scott was key in growing the recurring revenue business to 2,000 customers strong, leading to an acquisition by Iron Mountain. Scott has also served as board member and advisor to other early-stage companies in the search, mobile, security, storage and virtualization markets. Scott has an undergraduate degree in mathematical programming from the University of Tampa and an MBA from the University of South Florida.

 

John Piekos
Vice President, Engineering

John Piekos is responsible for VoltDB's engineering operations, including product development, QA, technical support, documentation and field engineering. He has more than 25 years of experience leading teams and building software, delivering both enterprise and Internet-based solutions.

John has held technical leadership positions at several companies, most recently at Progress Software where he led the OpenEdge database, ObjectStore database and Orbix product lines. Previously, John was vice president of Web Engineering at EasyAsk, and chief architect at Novera Software, where he led the effort to build the industry's first Java Application Server.

John holds an MS in Computer Science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and BS in Computer Science from the University of Lowell.

 

Eric Sansonetti
Vice President, Business Partnerships

Eric Sansonetti brings more than 25 years of experience in the software industry. He joins VoltDB from VidSys, Inc., where he tripled sales through business partnerships, opened EU and Middle East operations and propelled the company into the "2011 Deloitte Technology Fast 500." He has twice grown the revenues of early stage companies to achieve Software Magazine's "Top 500" ranking.

Eric played a key role in establishing Sybase's indirect channels and in turning around the company's Canadian division. He has held senior sales and channel management positions at Groove Networks (acquired by Microsoft), Virtual Access Networks (acquired by Symantec) and Marathon Technologies (acquired by Stratus Technologies).

Eric holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Johns Hopkins University.

 

Mark Hydar
Vice President of Market Technology and Strategy

In his role as VoltDB's vice president of market technology and strategy, Mark Hydar is responsible for leading the execution of VoltDB's vision, its innovation and technology roadmap, and the acceleration of its market-wide adoption.

Hydar comes to VoltDB from Yahoo!, where he established and led the Data Delivery Services organization. He has over 18 years of experience in large-scale hyper-growth internet service platforms, database management and technology development leadership. That has included roles as senior director, mobile service engineering at Microsoft, manager, enterprise management systems at eBay and PayPal. At VoltDB, Hydar will lead execution of the company’s three year vision, innovation and technology roadmap and will help accelerate the adoption of VoltDB technologies.
